LUFKIN, TEXAS (News Release) - When will criminals learn?  Businesses use video to watch for crime, Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards and complete anonymity to help solve crimes, and people will give you up. It really isn’t a difficult concept to grasp.

The last several Crime of the Week cases have been solved quickly, and we expect this case will be no different. At end of August, two men stole money from a cash register at Walmart in Lufkin. Since the crime occurred two months ago, the criminals probably believe they got away with it, but we know the community will not let that happen.

Video from the store shows two men, both wearing white T-shirts and dark sweatpants, arriving in a small, dark-colored car. They parked too far from the building for the make and model of the vehicle to be determined from the video, but they walked directly at cameras inside the store, graciously providing investigators the images you see here and the video posted at facebook.com/DETCS.

Inside the store, the suspect with “MMXVI” (2016) on the front of his sweatpants went to the garden center. When a cashier was called away from her register to assist someone, the suspect used a small pry bar to force open the cash drawer. He then stuffed about $2,000 into the pants and walked back to the car to meet his friend.

If you can identify either of the suspects, submit an anonymous tip at 639TIPS.com or by call (936) 639-TIPS. Calls and tips directly to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and the first, most accurate tip that leads to an arrest might be eligible for a reward.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
