LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Officers with the Lufkin Police Department arrested an 18-year-old man Wednesday in connection to allegations that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl back in May.

Julious Jamal Griffin, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County jail on a second-degree felony sexual assault charge. No bail amount has been set at this time.

According to an arrest affidavit, the alleged victim, who is now 15, was interviewed at Harold’s House in Lufkin by a forensic interviewer on Aug. 3. The affidavit said, at first, the girl was hesitant to talk about the sexual assault.

Eventually, the alleged victim told the interviewer that she had told Griffin to leave her alone, but he wouldn’t. The alleged victim told the interviewer that Griffin tried to take her clothes off and kiss her, the affidavit stated. At that point, the girl told Griffin to stop and pushed him away from her.

The alleged victim told the forensic interviewer that Griffin kissed her and sexually assaulted her, the affidavit stated. Griffin allegedly stopped when the girl hit him.

Later, a SANE exam revealed that the girl had healed injuries consistent with sexual assault, the affidavit stated. The alleged victim told the sexual assault nurse examiner that Griffin told her he would hit her if she told anyone, the affidavit stated.

The alleged victim told the SANE nurse that she didn’t tell anyone because she was scared.

According to the affidavit, the girl’s aunt took her to a clinic to get her checked out after the sexual assault outcry. In the clinic visit before the SANE exam, a blood test revealed that the alleged victim tested positive for gonorrhea.

On July 27, an LPD detective spoke with Griffin at the Angelina County Jail. Griffin was in jail on an unrelated offense.

Griffin allegedly told the detective that he and the victim were watching a movie together when she “initiated things” by touching him, the affidavit stated. Even though Griffin only admitted to kissing and touching the girl inappropriately, he later admitted to having sex with the girl, the affidavit stated.

Griffin allegedly told the LPD detective that the alleged victim told him she would tell on him if he didn’t have sex with her. He also told the detective that he had sex with the girl more than once, the affidavit stated.

The LPD detective obtained the arrest warrant for Griffin on Oct. 18.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
