LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A couple who were accused in the sexual assault of a mentally disabled woman were among the 38 people that an Angelina County grand jury indicted when it met last.

William Thomas Walley, 55, of Vidor, and Janice Crocker Caswell, 62, of Newton, were both indicted on four counts of felony aggravated sexual assault. They have both been released from the jail since their arrests.

Walley’s bail amount was set at $125,000, and Caswell’s bail amount was set at $100,000.

Caswell is accused of manipulating the 24-year-old mentally disabled  woman into having sex with Walley, her boyfriend.

According to the affidavit, Walley sexually assaulted the woman on several occasions over a few days’ span, using several different sexual methods.

The affidavit states Caswell would tell the girl how to get into different positions to have sex with him.

When a SANE exam was done on the alleged victim, the nurse discovered injuries that were consistent with recent sexual assault.

The arrest affidavit states Walley gave the mentally disabled woman two rings and threatened her to not tell anyone about the assaults. It also states Caswell attempted suicide for having let the assaults occur.

In addition, the grand jury indicted Jerry Lynn Mettlen, 39-year-old a registered sex offender, for third-degree felony online solicitation of a minor. The Burke man is accused of sending inappropriate text messages and nude photos to a 14-year-old girl and setting up a rendezvous to have sex with her while her mother was asleep.

In 2007, a federal judge sentenced Mettlen to 70 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to owning and distributing more than 100 images of child pornography. While he was on federal supervised release, he agreed to go back into federal custody for another three months. After the additional time in a federal prison, he was required to do an additional 27 months of supervised release.

According to a criminal complaint filed in 2007, Mettlen, who lived in Angelina County at the time, owned approximately 127 pornographic images depicting children in sexual activity. The complaint alleges he distributed those images in Gregg County, and the images were found on a personal computer federal agents seized from Mettlen's home in 2006.

The Angelina County grand jury also indicted Xavier Terrance McCloud, 28, Lufkin, on a second-degree felony sexual assault charge.

McCloud’s bail amount was set at $50,000, and he has since been released from the county jail.

McCloud is accused of dragging a 36-year-old woman behind a mobile home and sexually assaulting her on Jan. 23, 2014. According to the arrest affidavit, McCloud “adamantly denied” having any kind of relationship with the victim and said that he didn’t even know who she was.

Edward Dwayne Bentley, 49, of Lufkin, was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is still being held in the county jail, and his bail amount has been set at $20,000.

According to the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office report, the victim told deputies that he was in the area of FM 1475 and FM 326 when he stopped at a stop sign. The victim stated that a male later identified as Bentley jumped into the car and started screaming that someone was trying to kill him.
The victim stated he got scared and turned onto SH 103 and headed to Brooks to get help.

The report continued that Bentley got in the back seat and started stabbing the roof of the interior with a knife. The victim told deputies that Bentley then turned the knife on him and started attacking his ear and neck.

Capt. Alton Lenderman said when deputies arrived at Brook's, they found the victim in his car and Bentley in the middle of SH 103 yelling. Bentley was only wearing his underwear at the time.

The grand jury also indicted Martin Luviono, 28, Lufkin, on an aggravated assault charge. He is still being held in the county jail, and his bail amount has been set at $20,000.

Luviono is accused of getting mad at his sister because she asked him to roll her car window up, throwing beer bottles and bricks at her, damaging the windshield on her car, and then getting into a fight with his sister’s boyfriend.
