NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Two men are facing off for Nacogdoches County Commissioner in Precinct 3.
Republican Robin Dawley faces his third election in this cycle. He runs on 30 years of experience serving the public sector in various ways.
"I've served on various committees. I've got good working relationships with SFA, the city, the county and even with DETCOG, having worked with them on some projects," Dawley said. "So I have a good working relationship with all of our partners."
The Democrat in the race is Jared N.Cates, who says he wants to be a voice for the socially progressive members of the community. He talks about something seldom discussed by county commissioners - marijuana laws.
"One is instituting the 2007 law that allows for site release for misdemeanor marijuana possession," Cates said. "I think that will free up a lot of police resources and lower the population of our jail to allow for necessary repairs. I think it is absolutely critical and I don't believe our local leadership and law enforcement should stand in the way of their officers exercising their legal right."
