ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Northbound traffic on U.S. Highway 59 has been re-opened at the Angelina River Bridge after a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning.
According to Lufkin Texas Department of Transportation officials, just before 8:10 a.m. a crash was reported on the Angelina River Bridge between Lufkin and Nacogdoches.
A press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety indicated that the outside lane on the northbound side of Highway 59 had been closed because of roadway construction. The preliminary wreck investigations shows that Juan Rubio, 34, of Lufkin was driving a 2007 Chevrolet passenger car north on Highway 59 when he failed to control his speed and struck the back end of a 2003 Chevrolet pickup driven by Samuel Roque-Pina, causing the pickup to crash into a concrete barrier.
Roque-Pina, 36, of Lufkin, and a passenger were taken by ambulance to CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial Hospital in Lufkin for treatment of unknown injuries. Rubio was not injured in the crash, according to the press release.
All northbound lanes were shut down for about an hour while crews worked to clear the scene.
The wreck has been cleared and all lanes are re-opened.
