NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Bonita is a one year old Basenji-Shepherd mix who ended up in the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter in a pretty unconventional way.

“We don’t know exactly where she belongs,” said Nacogdoches Animal Shelter employee Katy Broadus. “She was accidentally caught in one of our traps, but she is super sweet, and she is already fixed.

Bonita hasn’t always showed off her soft side, but this beautiful pooch has proven to make the perfect companion.

“When she first entered the shelter, she was very scared,” Broadus said. “She didn’t have any socialization with others. She may have been different with whoever owned her before, but she has had a lot of volunteers and staff work with her, and she is very calm and sweet.”

Bonita is the perfect family dog who is already good on a leash.

“She likes to love and have attention, just like any pet should,” Broadus said. “She walks fantastic on a leash.”

This loving baby girl can fit in with about any family. She’d also make the perfect companion for anyone who likes to cuddle, travel, or stay at home.

“Bonita is good with most anybody. We’ve had children that have taken her out to play and adults,” Broadus said. “She obviously can fit into a variety of homes.”

Bonita is looking to be your next house dog.

“She’s not super spastic or playful, so you don’t have to worry about her jumping on you or anything like that,” Broadus said.

To adopt Bonita, you can visit the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter on SW Stallings between noon and 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The Community Food Drive in Lufkin is special to some because of the large amount of people it brings together from all walks of life.  "It's just like so many different people, very diverse," said volunteer, Priscilla Gonzalez. "It's just kind of cool to see all these people coming together to do one thing." For others, like Keith Kennedy, it's all about the service being provided to the greater community. "They're in miracle territory,...More >>
