Forest Fiesta America

by Chris Cato

People were out hitting the trails Saturday in honor of our troops.

Forest Fiesta America was held at the Texas Forestry Museum in Lufkin in honor of National Armed Forces Day. Children could get their face painted, make toy parachutes, and even run an obstacle course. Organizers used the opportunity to teach the kids about what the forest provides for our troops.

Mackenzie Eason of the Texas Forestry Museum said, "there is quite a few forest products that keep our troops safe. A lot of the cellulose that's used in wood products is used to make things like parachutes and uniforms, gloves and tire cords for all of our troops."

Children were also encouraged to write letters to soldiers that the Texas Forestry Museum will mail out later.
