CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - Houston County Commissioners have appointed Jim Lovell as the interim County Judge.
He will fill the remainder of Erin Ford's term. Ford announced last month that today would be his final day in office.
Lovell is a lifelong resident of Houston County and is a rancher in the Weches area. The Lovell name will be familiar to many long time residents in the county. Jim's dad, James Lacy Lovell served as a democrat in the Texas Legislature from 1967-1973. Lovell's grandfather, Loyd Lovell, served Houston County first as a Justice of the Peace, then as the sheriff and two terms as county judge.
"I never gave politics or county government any thought until I was approached about this," Lovell said. I've just been in business and a rancher.
Lovell will fill the position for two years but could then run in the 2018 election.
"There is no thought of running yet," Lovell said. "I'll cross that bridge when I get there. If the election was today I would not run but I have time to feel into the position and we will go from there."
