LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

The familiar sound of bells ringing outside of retail stores is returning to the Pineywoods.

Tuesday marked the start of the Red Kettle Campaign in Angelina County at a special kick-off ceremony. This year the group hopes to raise $75,000. The campaign could not have come at a more needed time.

"There's been a tremendous growth in those that are coming in and needing help, but we are happy to do it, said Capt. Jason Moore.

The money will go to keeping the facility running and providing meals to those seeking help.

"We will have these kettles all over town and will be accepting donation until Christmas Eve," Moore said. "You can help us out while you are out getting those last-minute gifts."
