LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Lufkin Police Department arrested a 28-year-old man Thursday night in connection to allegations that he entered a home on James Avenue on Nov. 15 and assaulted a couple with a metal object.
Jonathan Durell Cole, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a first-degree felony burglary with the intent to commit another felony charge. No bail amount has been set yet.
Lt. David Young, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, said LPD officers obtained an arrest warrant for Cole and picked him up Thursday night.
According to the Lufkin Police Department's Facebook page, the incident took place at a home on James Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
The woman said she was in the living room of their home when a black man entered and stood over her. She thought he had a gun because he had one hand behind his back, the Facebook post stated.
After the woman asked who the man was, she tried to run to a back room for safety. At that point, the suspect allegedly hit her in the head with an unknown metal object.
When the husband, who was in the backyard at the time, heard his wife's screams for help, he rushed inside the home to help, the Facebook post stated. The suspect then hit the husband in the head and arm with the metal object.
Children who were in the home at the time of the attack told Lufkin PD officers they thought the object was a crowbar.
"The couple was taken by ambulance to CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial Lufkin for non-life-threatening injuries," the Facebook post stated
