FRISCO, Texas (Press Release)- After two more wins were tacked on to SFA’s record to complete a four game win streak, senior Taylor Ross was named Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday.
Ross had a phenomenal week, leading the Ladyjacks in points for both games. She totaled 40 points, 15 assists, seven rebounds, and five steals on the week. She had a picture perfect game on Wednesday night against LSU-Shreveport. Ross shot 100 percent at the line (1-1) and from the field (6-6) for a total of fourteen points. On Sunday, she got back in the groove finishing with a season high 26 points against former Southland opponent UTA. The senior helped swing the momentum back for the Ladyjacks in the high-intensity UTA game, where the game was tied up seven times. It was Ross’s accuracy at the line that gave SFA the five-point edge in the final 11 seconds.
The Pflugerville native is averaging 15.0 points per game through the seven games played. The multitalented guard also ranks fifth in the Southland in assists per game (4.0) and is a big addition to the No. 3 ranked SFA team in scoring offense and scoring defense.
Honorable Mentions for the week included Raquel Logan from Central Arkansas, Beatrice Attura from Northwestern State, Celia Garcia Paunero from UIW, and Baileigh O’Dell from Lamar.
Ross also had the pleasure this week of being named the College Sports Madness Player of the Week due to her performance on the court.
The Ladyjacks will be back out of the court to face Louisiana Tech on Wednesday, Dec. 7th in Ruston, La. The game had an early tip-off at 11:15 a.m. CT.
