Game Wardens Crack Down On BWI Law

by Ramonica R. Jones

Game wardens will be out on area lakes, looking for boating violations this holiday weekend.

Folks ignoring the boating while intoxicated law will get a ticket. BWI is just as dangerous and illegal as driving while intoxicated on a road.

Alcohol plays a part in half of all boating accidents. But nearly all boating deaths involve victims not wearing a life jacket.

Game warden, Captain Donnie Puckett, said, "Contrary to popular belief, victims drown silently and it's very important for adults to supervise children when they're swimming."

Boating laws also apply to personal watercraft, like jet skis. It is against the law for anyone under the age of 13 to operate a personal watercraft at night or without an adult present.
