CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) -

The Crockett Police are hoping to bring smiles to local children with gifts this Christmas.

The department along with the local police officer association is asking for new toys to be dropped off at the department by the close of business on Thursday. The gifts will be taken to the early childhood center with Crockett ISD, where they will then be given to children.  Chief David Cross said they ask for the toys to be in age range from 1-4.

"It lets the citizens and children see our officers in a different light instead of normally on a disturbance call we may show up at their house or a traffic citation," Cross said. "This is just letting them look at us in a different light.

The gifts can be dropped off at the police station at 200 N 5th Street.
