LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The J.D. Center of Hope is asking the community to come out in their best clothes as a way to support others in the community.
The center is hosting the first-ever 'A Community Formal Affair' event. For years, the center has hosted many different community events and meals for those that live in North Lufkin.
"By talking to the community we just asked the question, 'How many of y'all ever dressed up and went out to a ball or an affair?''" said the center's director Stephanie Olford. "A lot of them raised their hands and said they didn't. So we came together as a team here to do something different."
Olford said the center will be selecting a queen and king at the event as well as drawing ticket numbers for prizes.
The event will start at 7 p.m. Friday at the J.D. Center of Hope at 1204 Cain Street in Lufkin. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
