NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Several hundred donors gave at least a day's pay to the Nacogdoches United Way campaign. The generosity qualified them to enter a contest for a new car. Of course, only one came away a winner.
Mary Dallas, a lab supervisor at Nacogdoches Medical Center came away the lucky winner. The retired Navy veteran calls the donation of the Accent by Rex Perry Autoplex a blessing.
"I'm just very humbled and blessed. I've been blessed all my life," Dallas said. "I've been giving to United Way ever since I could and, well, I was just excited to be here, so even if I didn't win I was still happy, so thank you."
Dallas names her cars. She selected "Bella" for the newest auto to the family. She'll have to get to know the Accent. It's a stick shift, which she doesn't know how to use. Her boss will give lessons.
