NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

The Nacogdoches ISD school board had no decision on the vacant superintendent position that has been open for 7 months.

The topic was on the agenda Thursday night. The board was to consider candidates for the vacancy and name of lone finalist.

The members of the board listened to a 25 minute long discussion on their options from their legal counsel. After that talk, the board went into executive session for another 20 minutes.

Around 5:55 p.m. Thursday, the members came out executive session and had no decision on the NISD superintendent position.

Interim Superintendent Sandra Dowdy was in the special meeting Thursday for the first half before walking back in as the board finished their executive session.

The school district has been without a superintendent for 7 months.

Back in June, the Nacogdoches ISD board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Fred Hayes. Parents and staff had been critical of Hayes' leadership in recent months.

Dowdy took the reigns as interim superintendent before the start of the 2016-2017 school year. NISD has also been dealing with accountability improvements from the state.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
