Ladyjacks host UT-Permian Basin on Saturday

SFA Athletics

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Press Release)– SFA has a 7-2 record with a six game winning streak, if they notch another tally in the winner’s column, they would match the seven game win streak in the first ten games from the 2011-12 season. The Ladyjacks are off to a great start, leading the Southland Conference with Central Arkansas in hot pursuit with a 6-2 preseason record. But first the Ladyjacks have two more games to overcome before the conference season starts. They host UT-Permian Basin this Saturday and then Prairie View A&M on the 20th.

Last time out, the Ladyjacks took a 54-46 win over University of Montana. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker hit her season first double-double, her career fourth, with 11 points and 12 rebounds against the Lady Griz. Senior Adrienne Lewis was on fire in the paint going 5-6 in the field and 3-4 at the line for a total of 13 points. Senior Taylor Ross had 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

SFA ranks third in the conference in their scoring margin, outscoring their opponents by an average of 9.0 points per game. With only one game last week to add numbers to the season count, SFA unfortunately dropped to third in the conference in steals (112 total/12.4 avg.) and ranked fifth for three-point percentage (.394) and field-goal percentage (.394).

Scouting the Falcons: Permian Basin dropped a tough game against Texas Woman’s in overtime last week. The 84-80 rout was led by a 20-point game from senior guard Niva Taito. Junior guard Briana Caro led on the boards with seven rebounds and 17 points. UTPB forced 18 turnovers and stole the ball 11 times. The Falcons have already taken on four teams with their Lone Star Conference and have emerged 1-3.

The Ladyjacks and Falcons have never seen each other on the court as this will be the first time that this two teams will clash in program history. This game will be a new adventure and great experience for both teams.

After the weekend, the Ladyjacks will back out on the home court for the last time before conference starts. Prairie View A&M will come into town on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. CT rout against the Ladyjacks. The game will be live streamed on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
