LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) -

During a Polk County plea bargain hearing, a man accepted a sentence of five years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison for slashing another person on the arm and leg with a sword that had been concealed in a walking cane.

As part of the plea bargain deal, James Kevin Roundtree pleaded guilty to a felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.

According to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Roundtree assaulted the victim at a home in the 600 block of Munson Road, slashing the individual on the arm and leg. After the alleged assault, Roundtree left the home, allowing the victim the chance to seek medical help.

After a warrant was issued for Roundtree’s arrest, he was arrested at 9:17 p.m. on June 28 in the 100 block of Big Foot Wallace Trail and taken to the county jail.
