Suspect in Nacogdoches shooting arrested in Lufkin

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A joint investigation by numerous law enforcement agencies in Nacogdoches and Angelina counties resulted in the arrest of a man suspected of shooting another man on Nov. 19 and leaving him lying in the street.

Roy Denard Casey II, 21, of Nacogdoches, is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge and a third-degree deadly conduct - discharge of a firearm. No bail amounts have been set for his charges at this time.

Sgt. Mack McKee with the Nacogdoches Police Department confirmed that law enforcement acted on tips and located Casey in Lufkin Thursday night. He was arrested on outstanding warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct.

According to a press release, Nacogdoches PD officers were dispatched out to the 1700 block of Eliza Street at about 7 p.m. on Nov. in reference to a possible gunshot victim.

When the NPD officers arrived on the scene, they found a man who was later identified as Menefee lying in the street with apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The press release stated that NPD officers believe that Casey and Menefee got into a physical argument that led to them shooting at each other in the street. Menefee suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder and side of his head.
