Search For Chiefs Continue

Nacogdoches city administrators have been searching for a fire chief and a police chief all year. Some residents are now wondering what's taking so long.

City management tells us fire department employees often do not want to relocate because of existing retirement plans and off duty jobs. And for both fire and police chief administrators want to take the time to make sure they pick the best possible candidates.

City manager Jim Jeffers said, "If we were only to promote from within for all of our positions, that's not necessarily a bad thing, but I think in a smaller community it's good to open it up and take a look at what's out there. See what is the best fit for your community." Jeffers said the outside search does not mean local applicants won't get the job.

Typically, a management search takes three to six months.
