LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County senior citizens shared pearls of wisdom on New Year's resolutions as 2017 inches closer on Wednesday.
"Maybe do some fishing. Maybe it won't be so bad. Not too windy," said Roy Luce, 75.
Staying active seems to be the general goal for all of members at the center, and they say life is all about new experiences no matter what your age.
"I've got a dog that I said I would never ever have a dog in my house, and now I have a dog living in my house, and she thinks she's the boss," said Bertie Birdwell, 92.
Over time, they have mastered the joy of happiness by keeping it simple.
"If had Blue Bell ice cream, I'm happy, and if I'd a sucker I were happy," Luce said.
However, learning from past lessons helps move the new year forward.
"If we can learn to live one day at a time and take joy each day while we're living, then I think you'll live a wonderful life," said Neal Stephens, 81.
Finally the big takeaway to make 2017 better: live a good life.
