LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

After nine successful terms, Angelina County Attorney Ed Jones is ready to move on and let a new attorney take over.

On Wednesday afternoon, a Lufkin court room was packed with some of Jones' favorite people who waited to tell him goodbye. Early in 2016, Jones made it known that he would not be seeking reelection. Jones will be replaced by Carry Kirby, who has worked under Jones.

Several close friends, including, Clyde Herrington, Angelina County Judge Wes Suiter, and Kirby, all shared stories from the past. Jones retires as the second longest active serving county attorney in the state of Texas.

"I think I will miss the relationship with law enforcement and with my employees and other employees," Jones said. :I've had a good relationship with them over the years. I think that will be important. I always enjoyed trying court cases."

Jones said he now plans on traveling more with his wife and taking care of his grandchildren.

Jones was given a special plaque from his staff and a pin from the county to commemorate 35 years of service.
