Affidavit: Pineland woman was dealing drugs in a home with 3 children

SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office arrested a 32-year-old Pineland woman in connection to allegations that she was dealing drugs out of a home where three children were present.

Charla Sowell, of Pineland, was arrested and charged with two felonies - endangering a child and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance between 1 and 4 grams.

According to the arrest affidavit East Texas News obtained Thursday, a confidential informant told a SCSO sergeant that Sowell and a man had pain pills that they were willing to sell.

After the SCSO sergeant spoke to the confidential informant, he had the person call Sowell by phone and set up a deal, the affidavit stated. At that point, the confidential informant was taken to Sowell's home, which is located on State Highway 96.

When the confidential informant went into the home, he or she was greeted by three children. The children then directed the CI to a back bedroom in the house, where the confidential informant met with Sowell and the other suspect, the affidavit stated.

Once the drug deal was made, the confidential informant left the home and got into the vehicle with the SCSO sergeant. The informant handed the sergeant pills that were later identified as Hydrocodone.

The SCSO sergeant who obtained the arrest affidavit stated that because drug deals have "the tendency to go bad without any notice," everyone present in the home, including the three children, was in risk of harm, the affidavit stated.
