Ladyjacks begin conference play on Saturday against HBU

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Press Release) – Stephen F. Austin begins their conference season this Saturday with a double-header against Houston Baptist. Both women and men's teams will tip off on New Year's Eve at 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. CT, respectfully. SFA has an eight game win streak coming into tomorrow's game, the best starting record they have had since the 2011-12 season. The Ladyjacks are gaining momentum has they garnered seven votes for the Mid-Major Top 25 list this week. On the NCAA lists, the Ladyjacks hold the 14th and 15th spot for free-throws made and attempts. They are also ranked 16th in the nation for steals per game and 5th for turnovers forced.

Last Tuesday against Prairie View A&M, the Ladyjacks had five players in the double digits, as SFA took a 88-64 run away game over the Panthers. Freshman Riley Harvey had a career game with 19 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Kia Fisker also had a career high in rebounds with six boards. Other points came from senior Taylor Ross (18), senior Brentney Branch (17), redshirt junior Stevi Parker (14), and senior Adrienne Lewis (10). The SFA defense created 13 steals against Prairie View and forced 21 turnovers.

Scouting Houston Baptist: The Huskies are coming from a 101-40 loss in Fayetteville, Ark. against the Razorbacks. Freshman forward Taylor Kollmorgen leads the Huskies (2-8) with 9.0 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots per game and is averaging a double-double with 11.0 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over the last seven games. Senior guard Heidi Byrd and sophomore guard Lisa Zderadicka each add 6.7 points per game, with freshman forward Lauren Calver chips in with 6.4 points per game. Fresh­man guard Sophie Taylor paces HBU with a team-leading 22 assists.

After the weekend the Ladyjacks turn right around and hit the road to Lake Charles, La. SFA will tip off against the McNeese Cowgirls on Jan. 2nd at 5:30 p.m. CT.
