A Lufkin business is continuing their tradition of giving out coats in times of cold weather.

A simple sign is attached to a clothes rack outside of New to You Resale in Lufkin. The sign reads:

If you are cold, take one. If you can help, leave one. Thanks, James.

James Cole started the practice of handing out coats four years ago after Lufkin residents dealt with a very cold day.

"Every year it gets cold," Cole said. "People need coats. They need warmth. Sometimes they just need help."

Cole usually hands out the coats in November or December but had to wait until the last two days of the year due to a warm holiday season.

"I usually try to give them out earlier. I had to wait this year. I like to give them out when it is cold. It will get cold in Texas. You know if you don't like the weather just give it a couple of minutes and it changes. We waited. We started giving them away yesterday. It was pretty cool yesterday and today it is nice and cool. We gave quiet a few away yesterday and hopefully we do the same today."

Cole said the coats will be out during normal business hours for anyone who needs one or would like to donate to the cause. The resale shop is locate dat 1411 Atkinson Drive.
