CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) -

Crockett police have arrested a woman accused of allowing her son to walk a half-mile to find a ride to her father's house last week.

Kamerica Lashae Scott, 27, of Crockett, is charged with state-jail felony endangering a child.

According to the arrest affidavit, police were called out to Crockett Manor Apartments at 8 p.m. on Dec. 28. The officer reported that Scott said her son had run away from home and went to his father's home, and the father did not have custody of the child. The officer said Scott smelled of alcohol and was intoxicated.

The officer then went to the father's home and saw the child. The child said he had told his mother he wanted to go to his father's house and that Scott told him, "If you want to go over there so bad, you can walk down the road to the gas station and get a ride over there."

The boy said he did that, and someone recognized him and took him to his father's house.

The officer reported that the boy's grandmother offered to take the boy and Scott's other two children since Scott was intoxicated.

The officer obtained a warrant for Scott's arrest on Dec. 28. She was arrested on Saturday.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
