LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

It was a new year's surprise for a Lufkin church, which received a plaque from Afghanistan from the men and women who serve our nation.

In September last year, a bus broke down while carrying almost 50 soldiers.

At that time, Keltys Baptist Church opened their doors and welcomed the troops. The church hosted them with pizza, donuts, and coffee for almost three hours.

In return to show gratitude, the troops sent the church a flag that was flown at the airbase in Afghanistan.

"If anything, we should be saying thank you to these people who are overseas for us. And yet, I'm amazed, honestly, that a colonel would take time out. They're their giving us resources to send us things like a plaque," said Mark Livingston, the church's senior pastor.

The congregation at Keltys Church is truly grateful that they could help at time when the soldiers needed it the most before they departed to Afghanistan.
