LUFKIN, TX (Press Release)- As it turned out, all the Angelina College Lady Roadrunners needed was a little time at home.
The Lady 'Runners on Wednesday snapped a two-game losing streak – both losses occurring on the road – with a 67-53 win over Jacksonville College at Shands Gymnasium. The win moved AC's ladies to a 6-1 record at home, while boosting their season record to 11-5, 4-2.
La'Neique Nealey charted yet another double-double – her 12th of the season – with a 16-point, 19-rebound night; and teammates Kennethah Harden (15 points), Charisma Shepherd (11 points) and Alexzine Andrepont (10) provided the offensive support in the win.
AC's defensive effort also provided a boost: The Lady Roadrunners forced 20 Lady Jaguar turnovers, converting those into 16 points. AC committed just 10 turnovers the entire game.
Jacksonville's Brianna Perry led the Lady Jags with 13 points; teammate Aaliyah Wheatfall added 12 and Allyson Hinds 11 in the loss.
The Lady Roadrunners led from the onset, with Nealey and Shepherd combining for the team's first nine points. Harden shook off some tough shooting breaks early to score six points in the third quarter; and Andrepont contributed her 10 points off the bench in just 12 minutes of court time.
