NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Austin the terrier/chihuahua mix has deep roots in Nacogdoches.
"Austin was found as a stray on Austin Street so that's how we gave him his name," Nacogdoches Animal Control Officer Katie Broaddus said. "He is about a two year old terrier, chihuahua. He is very playful but also very sweet."
Austin has been at the shelter for about a month but has had little interest for those that stop by.
"He has not had any interest in him yet," Broaddus said. It's beyond us why. I mean he is just the perfect dog."
His small size makes him good for any size home and so far he has done well with anyone he meets.
"It would be a great lap dog for the kids to play with," Broaddus said. "He's the perfect medium size. He's not aggressive. He shows a lot of love towards other animals and people."
While he likes to be a lap dog he also likes to go outside and play.
"He does love attention but he can be very playful," Broaddus said. "So he's the best of both worlds. he'd be the perfect dog for any family. "
For this week only, Austin's adoption fee is being waved. He can be looked at at the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter located at 3211 SW Stallings. The shelter is open noon - 5:30 pm on Monday through Friday and 11 am - 3 pm on Saturdays.
