JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The man who shot and killed his cousin at a home in the Evadale area of Jasper County Monday afternoon has been arrested and charged with murder, according to the sheriff's office.
According to a press release from the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, William West was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of Ryan West, his cousin.
The press release stated that JCSO deputies were dispatched out to a home in Evadale in reference to a man calling 911 to report someone dumping trash in the front yard of his house. Before the deputies arrived on the scene, William West called 911 again and said that he had just shot his cousin inside his home, the press release stated.
When the deputies got to the house in Evadale, they found Ryan West lying in the home's front yard. He had a gunshot wound to the chest, the press release stated. On Monday, a JCSO spokesman said Ryan West had multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.
At that point, deputies, EMS personnel, and first responders began giving Ryan West medical treatment. However, they couldn't save his life, and Precinct 6 Justice of the Peace Steve Conner pronounced Ryan West dead at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that a disturbance had occurred between the two cousins inside the home before Ryan West was shot.
The incident is still under investigation, the press release stated.
