LUFKIN, TX (Press Release)- Angelina College's Lady Roadrunners already had a tall task facing them with the loss of their best player. With La'Neique Nealey, who leads the team in scoring, rebounding and other categories sidelined with an injury, AC found itself facing one of the league's best defensive teams in the Blinn College Lady Buccaneers.
The Lady Bucs' defense, which has allowed just 55 points per game all season, swarmed the Lady 'Runners all game long to take a 76-55 win Wednesday at Shands Gymnasium.
Blinn forced 27 Lady 'Runner turnovers and allowed just one AC player – Kennethah Harden with 13 points – to reach double figures in scoring.
The Lady Bucs notched their eighth straight win, getting 17 points each from Bryanna Taylor (who hit five of six three-point attempts) and Ke'Asia Williams. Brenisha Coleman added 14 for Blinn (13-5, 6-2).
AC's ladies put up a fight in the first quarter, with Harden scoring her team's first six points, all on feeds from Tyanna Barlow, who finished with eight points and four assists. Toraya Bass scored on a runner in the lane and converted the and-one free throw to give the Lady Roadrunners a 13-10 lead midway through the period.
But the Lady Bucs held AC to just nine points in the second quarter, building a double-digit lead they'd hold the remainder of the game.
