SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office arrested a Buna woman earlier this month at a hospital in Center after she allegedly admitted to a deputy that she had shot another woman in the back of the head.
Brenda Northern was arrested and charged with two felonies - aggravated assault with a deadly weapon sand injury to the elderly. Collectively, her bail amount has been set at $14,000.
According to the press release East Texas News obtained from the Shelby County Sheirff's Office Friday, the arrest occurred on Jan. 11. A SCSO deputy was dispatched to the Nacogdoches Medical Center Emergency Room in Center at about 7:54 a.m. that day.
When the deputy got to the ER, the deputy was told that the suspect was there with the victim. When the deputy spoke to Northern, she allegedly told him that he should go ahead and arrest her because she had shot the victim in the back of the head with a .22-caliber gun, the press release stated.
The deputy took her into custody and put her in the back of his patrol unit.
A short time later, an SCSO investigator arrived on the scene. The investigator spoke to the victim, who identified herself as Adah Phillips of Center."
"Phillips told the officers that Northern had hit her in the back of the head with a gun, and she believed Northern was trying to kill her," the press release stated.
During the investigation, the bullet was found lodged in the back of Phillips' head.
