NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Nacogdoches Police Department arrested a 54-year-old McAllen man on a felony money laundering charge Friday night after a search of his vehicle turned up a "large quantity of currency."
Raul Gonzalez Rios was arrested and charged with second-degree felony money laundering between $150,000 and $300,000. Although no bail amount was listed on the Nacogdoches County Jail website, he has since been released from custody.
According to the arrest affidavit, Nacogdoches PD officers stopped Rios' vehicle in the 3200 block of Southwest Stallings Drive at about 7:03 p.m. Friday night. Because the NPD officers suspected some kind of unknown criminal activity, they asked for and got permission to search Rios' vehicle.
The search turned up a large amount of cash hidden in the vehicle, and the Nacogdoches PD officers determined that Rios was trafficking the money, the affidavit stated.
Rios was arrested at the scene and taken to the county jail.
