NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A lot of money for cancer research was collected by Nacogdoches Medical Center at one of its most popular events of the year.
It's the Simply Pink Fundraiser held each October.
The style show and lunch generated over $14,000.
The check was presented today to the American Cancer Society.
The committee in charge was treated to a thank you luncheon for all their hard work.
"We couldn't do it without our community partners," said Raegan Best, the chair of the Simply Pink Committee. "The donors and sponsors that are part of it. They are the ones who make it possible. We are so blessed to be a part of this community that cares so much about the people in it and it's so rewarding."
A related cancer issue is the importance of support during the treatment and recovery.
Nacogdoches Medical Center is reinstating its cancer support group. Survivors praise the move.
"Support is very, very important," said Stacy Dean, a seven-year cancer survivor. "I think a lot of people try to keep it personal, but I think if you open up there's just so many people outside that can help you and you can even eventually be helping them also."
Medical Center's Cancer Support groups are each first Thursday of the month from one to two in the hospital's classroom.
