LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) - A Goodrich man is starting a 20-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to molesting an 11-year-old girl while she was sleeping in July of 2016.
Louis Joseph Mastalez, 55, pleaded guilty to indecency with a child on Jan. 18.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office charged Mastalez with the crime after the child's father said an acquaintance of his who had been living on his property had touched his daughter inappropriately.
The girl told investigators that she was asleep in her bed when she was awakened by Mastalez touching her. She said he had touched her on several different occasions.
"Justice was served," said prosecuting attorney Kari Allen. "The kid is a victim. Her family and she will suffer. He accepted responsibility and will spend significant time in prison."
Mastalez, who is a registered sex offender and was living in a travel trailer on the property, admitted to the crime and had apologized to the child.
Mastalez then traveled to Comal County, where he tried to commit suicide and was hospitalized.
