(KTRE) - A group of concerned East Texas residents say they have formed "Indivisible Deep East Texas" to publicly oppose President Trump and his policies.
"We are a group of men and women who care about our country," Laura Bowman said. "We started about two weeks ago. We range from age 20 to our 70s. We are men and women, professionals and students. We come from various religions, backgrounds, ethnicity and socioeconomic statuses. We have one common goal, which is to oppose President Trump's agenda that will take America backwards."
The group gathered outside of Lufkin City Hall Friday with plans to visit with a representative of U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert. Once on the second floor, the group said they learned that the representative in Lufkin was at a meeting and could not meet with them. Several members said they were upset.
"People will die because republicans want to repeal Obamacare without making a replacement," Louan Tatum said. "It is absolutely ridiculous that they are doing this. They are going to hurt people. They are going to hurt kids, and that's why I am here."
Gerald Ward showed up hoping to get answers. With several health issues, he said he is already limited on what plans he can choose. He expressed frustration that he was unable to talk to anyone.
"I do not have a personal physician here because of the way the State of Texas has set up our insurance here," Ward said. "They want to blame Obamacare and the ACA. No! It is the State of Texas that caused a problem with a bunch of other states."
The group said they are not giving up and have started planning other events to voice their concerns to politicians.
