LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 43-year-old man Thursday in connection to allegations that he went to the home of his ex-wife’s mother, and stabbed and cut his ex-wife’s boyfriend in the hand, arm and side.

David Scott Dunn, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. No bail amount has been set yet.

According to the arrest affidavit, a Lufkin PD detective spoke with a patrol sergeant who took a report from a man at CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Hospital who had been stabbed on Dec. 1, 2016. The LPD detective then spoke to the alleged victim and his girlfriend.

The alleged victim told the LPD detective that they had been at his girlfriend’s mother’s house in the 500 block of Hoskins Avenue when they heard a knock on the door.

The man opened the door and looked outside, but he didn’t see anyone. Then he opened the door, stepped outside, and closed the door, so the dog wouldn’t get out.

When the alleged victim went outside, he saw Dunn, his girlfriend’s ex-husband, standing outside the home with another person, the affidavit stated. Dunn allegedly then started yelling at the victim. Dunn also insulted and threatened the victim, the affidavit stated.

According to the affidavit, the victim started yelling back at Dunn, telling him that he needed to leave.

At that point, Dunn allegedly charged at the victim, and he told the Lufkin PD detective that, at first, he thought Dunn was trying to punch him. However, when he blocked the punch, he suffered a large cut on his left hand, the affidavit stated.

“At that time, he noticed David holding what he believed was a knife, and then David attacked him again, cutting him on his right arm and side with the knife,” the affidavit stated. “[The victim] advised that he does not know what type or make the knife was but believed it was sharp and cut him deep.”

After the second attack, Dunn walked away from the home, and the woman took her boyfriend to the hospital, the affidavit stated.

When the Lufkin PD detective asked the woman what had happened, her story matched what the victim had told him. However, she told him that she didn’t actually see Dunn stab or cut her boyfriend because she had looked away in an attempt to keep the dog in the house.

Dunn’s arrest record dates back to 1996. Over the years, he has been arrested and charged with evading arrest, public intoxication, theft, criminal mischief between $1,500 and $20,000, possession of marijuana, forgery of a financial instrument, failure to identify as a fugitive, possession of drug paraphernalia, and assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
