NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

On Friday night, Love In the Name of Christ, Nacogdoches is staging a “big reveal” of the winning design of a shower and laundry facility for its clients.

East Texas News got a sneak preview of the project that is creating heightened awareness about the hardships faced by people in need.

Stephen F. Austin State University interior design student Hayley Breshears once took showers and clean clothes for granted. Now she knows both are privileges. She learned it while working on her winning design for the Love in the Name of Christ shower and laundry facility.

"Honestly, I didn't, I had never really thought of that problem, and whenever they said it, it really clicked and made me realize I'm very lucky,” Breshears said.

Love INC director Patty Goodrum said she's enlightened each time she learns of a working poor family having difficulty paying their water bill.

"We pay a lot of water bills in Nacogdoches so it became a significant need that we saw coming,” Goodrum said.

The task at hand was present affordable ways to convert a cinder block storage building into a place Love INC clients can bring their families. It's still on paper, but the ideas are there.

“We added a porch,” said Jarod Ragsdale, an SFA design student.  We added a ramp for ADA purposes."

"The clients asked that we choose furniture they could build themselves,” said Catherine Rivette, another SFA design student.

The clincher that sealed the building committee's selection were inspirational words Haley proposed be placed on the shower walls.

"Kind of  lift their spirits a little bit because if they're in there they may be in a dark time,” Breshears said.

The final drawing will be a “great reveal” at Friday night's Chairished Blessings, a Love INC  fundraiser featuring the design and sale of re-purposed furniture and decor. At that moment the capital campaign for the shower and laundry facility begins. Then an entire community will learn some things shouldn't be taken for granted.

There are a few individual tickets available for Friday night's Cherished Blessings. Guests can bid on room submissions and table decorations. Contact Love In the Name of Christ, Nacogdoches for ticket information.
