NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Saturday is February 11, or 211 Day.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission and its partners use the day to promote a program committed to helping Texas citizens connect with important resources.
The focus is on senior citizen's with questions on social services, and assisting residents with a data base that's used during regional disasters.
"The provider gets them put on the 211 data base, so if there was a hurricane or something came through, all the counties would know where these elderly people are, so that they can make sure they got evacuated or that their children were taken care of during this time," said Bobbie Stott, the Texas representative for the Deep East Texas Council of Governments. "So it does a lot more than just refer people for things that they need in their community. It also helps in emergencies."
