ONALASKA, TX (KTRE) -

An officer with the Onalaska Police Department arrested a 37-year-old man on Feb. 8 in connection to allegations that he punched his 6-year-old son in the face because he was angry at the boy’s caretaker.

Steven Clifford Valentine was booked into the Polk County Jail on Feb. 8 on a third-degree felony injury to a child charge.

According to the arrest affidavit East Texas News obtained Monday, a Child Protective Services caseworker went to the Onalaska Police Department to be briefed about a report of an injury to a child incident. The initial outcry was made by a teacher at the boy’s school, who then told the school counselor, the affidavit stated.

When the CPS case worker spoke to the 6-year-old boy, the child told her that Valentine punched him in the face on Feb. 7 because he was angry at the boy’s caretaker.
