Affidavit: Jasper man assaulted 2 women, broke window while holding 1-year-old son

JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office arrested a 28-year-old man on Sunday in connection to allegations that he got drunk and assaulted two women at a home on County Road 254 and then broke a window while he was holding his 1-year-old son.

Joseph "Jody" Dan Sandefer, of Jasper, was booked in to the Jasper County Jail on a second-degree endangering a child - placing in imminent danger charge and a Class A misdemeanor assaulting causing bodily injury charge. Sandefer was released from the jail after he posted a collective bail amount of $52,000.

According to the arrest affidavit East Texas News obtained Wednesday, a JCSO deputy was dispatched out to a home in the 500 block of CR 524 on Sunday in reference to a physical disturbance in progress. While the deputy was on his way, dispatch told him that a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper had made a traffic stop on Sandefer's vehicle.

Once he got to the scene, the deputy spoke to the two complainants, a 49-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman.

While he was approaching the home, the JCSO noticed a large amount of broken glass and a broken window on the back side of the house. There was a large amount of broken glass inside the home as well.

The older of the two women told the JCSO deputy that Sandefer arrived at the house earlier that day and started beating on the front door. She also told the deputy that even though the younger woman and Sandefer had been arguing most of the night, the younger woman let Sandefer come into the house.

According to the affidavit, Sandefer and the younger woman started arguing with each other "almost immediately." The older woman told the JCSO deputy that she tried to get between Sandefer and the other woman and told him to leave several times, the affidavit stated.

At that point, Sandefer allegedly grabbed the older woman and slammed her into some cabinets.

The younger woman told the deputy that Sandefer showed up at her house drunk, the affidavit stated. Backing up the older woman's story, the younger woman said Sandefer shoved her out of the way, so he could grab the other woman and slam her against the cabinets and the floor, the affidavit stated.

Then Sandefer allegedly picked up the 2-year-old son he had with the younger woman and went outside with the child, trying to leave with him, the affidavit stated. The younger woman told the JCSO deputy that she kept trying to get Sandefer to give their son back to her.

The affidavit stated that Sandefer then punched a window and broke it while he was holding their son.
