Last weekend, SFA finished the Bulldog Classic empty handed, but senior Brittany Lewis did slam the first homer of the season in the second match up against Mississippi State. As a team, SFA complied 30 hits over the weekend, and only allowed their opponents 23 hits. Three of the five games, SFA out hit the opposing team, but could not help hitting it right to the defense. Juniors Lauren Becker and Amber Landry each had the team-high five hits, while sophomores Emily Wolfe, Tanna Huie, and Lewis each totaled four hits. On the pitching side, SFA had a tremendous weekend with junior Makayla Sikes striking out 10 batters in her three appearances. The defense behind the pitchers garnered 94 putouts. However, the effort would not be enough to make up for their opponents' offensive attack.
After the weekend, SFA will be on the road again to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a two game series against Southern Mississippi of Feb. 22. The first game is slated for 4:00 p.m. and the second will follow after, around 6:00 p.m.
