Summer's still a couple weeks away, but East Texans are already trying to cool off.
One of those cool off spots is no longer in jeopardy of closing down.
City leaders say the pool in Jones Park will remain open. For a while, there was talk of shutting down the pool and turning it into a spray and play. Overwhelming public support of Jones pool outweighed that decision. In fact, Jones pool is better and safer than ever.
Don Hannabas, director of Parks and Leisure Services, said, "We've made some improvements and made some changes to the fence structure and taken down the old pool house that was in danger of falling. We've added a sidewalk, we've added a shower head to the pool deck, and we've got everything cleaned up and looking real nice."
