CORRIGAN, TX (KTRE) - Corrigan police have charged a Corrigan man in connection to a suspicious fire at a city park in March.
Don Herman Botley Jr., 22, is charged with arson. He is also being held in the Polk County Jail on charges of criminal mischief, assault and criminal trespass on a collective bond of $35,000.
Police Chief Darrell Gibson said officers arrested Botley on criminal trespass on Feb. 10. It was from there the investigation revealed Botley had burned the playground. Jail records show that charge was added on Feb. 13.
KTRE has submitted an open records requests for Botley's arrest affidavits.
A previous East Texas News story stated that officials believe arson was the cause of the suspicious fire, which destroyed most of the playground equipment at Central Park. Gibson said a woman who lives near the park told them that the playground was fine when she left for work at 5:40 a.m. on the morning of March 3.
Gibson said the first 911 call about the fire came in about five minutes after that.
