Lufkin group hosting Black History Month program

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The group 'Maintain the Knowledge' is planning on honoring a very special group of citizens at the second annual Black History Month program.

The theme for the event is 'Remembering our unspoken heroes' and will be held at the Brandon Community Center on Kelty's Street Saturday afternoon.

"There was men and women that was doing a lot in this community that were under the radar so to speak so we wanted to honor those people that just take food to the elderly lady next door or the guy that is picking up trash because he felt the need," Director Marelna Morton said. "We want to give them their credit."

In total, seven different citizens will be honored. The even runs from 3-5 pm and is free for everyone.
