HOUSTON COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A 24-year-old Groveton man has died because of injuries he suffered when a tractor-trailer rig went off the road in Houston County and struck a tree on FM 357.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Safety, the crash occurred at about 9:15 a.m. on Feb 23. Houston County DPS troopers responded to the crash scene, which was about four miles south of Kennard.

The preliminary crash report shows that Joshua Sylestine, 30, of Livingston, was driving a 2011 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig south on FM 357 when the truck drove off the road to the right, the press release stated. Sylestine allegedly over-corrected to the left, and the 18-wheeler slid back across FM 357 before it struck a tree.

Both Sylestine and his passenger, Keaton Delk were ejected from the cab of the truck.

Delk died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the crash at 10:40 a.m. on Feb. 24.
