LUFKIN, TX (Press Release)
That’s the longest break the Angelina College baseball team has had since the season opened at the end of January. Six days to prepare for the next opponent, and six days to consider the all-important conference season opening this week.
Before Thursday’s league opener against Navarro College, however, the Roadrunners will take on a tough Alvin College team already three games deep into its own conference schedule.
AC (6-10) will host the Dolphins (9-6-1, 2-1) in a single, nine-inning game on Tuesday. The Roadrunners are coming off last weekend’s split at Temple College. AC’s bats erupted in a 16-1 win in the opener, with Josh Elvir driving in five runs with two hits, including a homer; Jacob Finke also went deep for the ‘Runners (his sixth of the season); and Aaron Bowley drove in another three runs to back starting pitcher Jarod Sprinkle. Sprinkle, the freshman from Pollok Central, earned the win with six strong innings of work in which he allowed one run on five hits. Tyler Brockner tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the win.
Over the past five games, the ‘Runners’ team batting average has climbed nearly 30 points to .316, and the pitching staff’s ERA has dropped nearly a full point.
The Roadrunners and Dolphins are scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at Roadrunner Field on the Angelina College campus.
