In an effort to encourage more young women to pursue scientific careers, the NOAA National Weather Service Forecast Office in Shreveport will host Girls Really Love Science – Girls LOve Weather 2.0 or “GiRLS GLOW 2.0” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11. This open house will highlight careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. It is free and open to everyone.

GLOW 2.0 will feature hands-on science and weather activities, tours of the NWS Forecast Office, and a weather balloon launch at noon. Several additional organizations will participate in the event with displays and demonstrations, including: Girls Who Code, the Worley Observatory, Sci-Port Discovery Center, Nicole Madden from KSLA-TV, and Louisiana State University-Shreveport Entomology and Mathematics Departments.

“We are expanding our GiRLS GLOW 2.0 event this year to include more STEM careers,” said Mario D. Valverde, meteorologist-in-charge of the Shreveport NWS Forecast Office. “All are welcome, so please come out and enjoy the day with us.”

The City of Shreveport and Music Mountain Spring Water Company are providing support for the event.
