LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An Angelina county grand jury has indicted three of the four suspects in an armed robbery that occurred at the Lufkin Family Dollar Store on Dec. 20, 2016.
According to the indictment list, Ronal Pernell Davis, 18, Arterius Griffen, 17, and Darion Jaquay Jonson, 18, all of Lufkin, were all indicted on first-degree felony aggravated robbery charges. Each man has a bail amount of $100,000 for the charge. Johnson was also charged with a Class C possession of drug paraphernalia charge.
Back in December of 2016, Jessica Pebsworth, a spokeswoman for the Lufkin Police Department, said the fourth suspect was arrested as well, but he or she is a minor, so no details of that person's involvement were released.
According to to investigators, three black males wearing black hoodies walked into the store in the Timberland Shopping Center around 9:49 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2016, while a fourth suspect waited outside.
The men wielded a sawed-off shotgun and robbed the cashier and a customer of an undisclosed amount of money, a news release stated. All four suspects were wearing masks and hoodies, according to the press release.
One witness saw the suspects flee on foot toward Pinedale Manor, and another reported that they saw a group matching the suspects' descriptions go into a specific apartment.
The Lufkin Police Department contacted the renter of the apartment, who was not home at the time, by phone, and got permission to go inside to look for the suspects.
"Three of the four suspects attempted to escape out of a window, but found themselves trapped by a fence that protects an air conditioning unit," the press release stated. "They were all taken into custody once the owner of the property arrived with a key."
According to the press release, LPD officers recovered the sawed-off shotgun that was allegedly used in the robbery, loose cash, rolled coins, and the suspects' masks and hoodies.
The Angelina County grand jury also indicted Tevin Dewayne Sanders, 17, of Lufkin, on an first-degree felony aggravated assault of a public servant charge. Sanders is accused of coming up behind a Lufkin High School teacher who was working late and putting a cord in front of her neck on Oct. 28.
Sanders' bail amount was set at $10,000.
James Leigh Williams, 37, of Lufkin was re-indicted on a felony aggravated sexual assault of a child charge. He is accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl on multiple occasions in 2016, and his bail amount was set at $100,000.
Also among the 46 people indicted by the Angelina County grand jury was Devon Lee Gates, 27, of Lufkin. Gates, who was indicted for indecency with a child by sexual contact and two counts of attempted indecency with a child charges, is accused of inappropriately touching two girls Hudson girls in the middle of the night back in November of 2016.
