NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Women learned today in Nacogdoches the importance of self-confidence and the benefits of developing relationships with other women who strive to make an impact.
It happened at the Women's Empowerment Summit hosted by the Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs.
The full-day event came with multiple workshops led by SFA faculty and staff members.
The keynote speaker was our own! KLTV anchor Anissa Centers. As a motivational speaker, Centers emphasized the power of the mind, words and peace in creating happiness and self-worth.
The address fell right in line with the summit's theme.
"Taking ownership of their own lives. Breaking down those barriers that they might face soon in the work field and when they start their careers," said Kaylee Carson, the summit coordinator. "Breaking down walls and going above and beyond those walls and really claiming what is their right."
This was the first Women's Empowerment Summit at SFA in recognition of Women's History Month. The Office of Multicultural Affairs would like to make it an annual event.
